Profile

Adam R. Cross is Professor of International Business and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). Before joining the Department of International Studies as inaugural Head of Department in April 2018, Adam served for more than four years as Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching at the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS), XJTLU, during which time IBSS became the youngest business school in the world to receive accreditation by AACSB and EQUIS. Previously, Adam worked for 17 years at the Centre for International Business University of Leeds (CIBUL), UK.

Adam has co-edited four books, and has contributed to more than fifty book chapters and articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, International Business Review, Asian Business & Management, and Management International Review. His most recent textbook on International Business, co-authored with Profs. Peter Buckley and Peter Enderwick, was published by Oxford University Press in 2018. Adam’s research currently focuses on the internationalization of Asian multinational firms, cross-border licensing and management of intellectual property, start-up entrepreneurial ecosystems, technology adoption, and user innovation, with China serving as a country context for much of this work.

Awards and honours
- Adam's 2007 Journal of International Business Studies publication, “The determinants of Chinese outward foreign direct investment”, was chosen for the prestigious 2017 Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) Decade Award. The award, sponsored by Palgrave Macmillan, is designed to recognise the most influential paper published in JIBS ten years previously. JIBS is ranked as a 4* ‘World Elite’ journal in the Association of Business Schools’ Academic Journal Guide 2015 - the highest quality ranking possible. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Peter Buckley, Prof. Jeremy Clegg, Dr Hinrich Voss, Dr P. Zheng and Dr X. Liu.
