Prior to joining XJTLU, Yunyan studied and worked in the United States for nine year, where she obtained her second master's and Ph.D. degree in Foreign and Second Language Education, and then taught as an IEP (Intensive English Program) lecturer at the CESL (Center for English as a Second Language) of the University of Arizona.
However, Yunyan's teaching experience can be dated back to 2001 when she began to teach EAP courses at Xuzhou Normal University (now Jiangsu Normal University) after obtaining her first master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. Over six years, she had instructed classes in all language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, translation), and her students ranged from freshmen to juniors.
Since joining the ELC of XJTLU, Yunyan has challenged herself with different roles, including not only an EAP tutor, but also an internal moderator, a module convenor, the EAP Curriculum Manager, and now the position which oversees the Postgraduate Division of ELC.
For Yunyan, teaching English is her profession as well as her passion. Her goal is always to help students derive fun and confidence from the process of learning the English language and experiencing the culture. Her original intention to be a dedicated educator has never changed over 22 years of her teaching career.
