Profile

Since 1990 I have taught in Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia and the Middle East. Most of my work life has been in Japan, where I was variously involved in education as teacher and/or manager, the music industry, television and biotechnology. I have worked as a teacher trainer in Malaysia on 2 separate occasions. At university level I have taught communication skills in 3 different Japanese universities and EAP in the Middle East and China. My main interest is with young learner literacy…particularly students with learning difficulties. Unfortunately I don't have much chance to work on this field these days. However, I also have an interest in cross-cultural implications for language education, since my master’s research focused on Japanese efforts to reform their language education system to a more communicative model. Outside of teaching, my time is mostly devoted to my 2 daughters.
