Features of XJTLU-JITRI Joint Masters Programme

  • The degree is awarded by the University of Liverpool and recognised by China’s Ministry of Education;
  • It adopts the international application admission procedure. Applicants do not need to take the Chinese national graduate entrance examination;
  • Over 90% of academic staff are recruited internationally, providing an international campus environment. All programmes are taught in English, which prepares students to become competitive global citizens;
  • Students are mentored by an academic supervisor at XJTLU and an industry supervisor who is recognised by XJTLU Graduate School, creating an innovative education mechanism through the integration of industry, education and research;
  • Students can participate in industrial applied research projects extracted from leading companies using actual technical requirements. Under the joint guidance of academic and industry supervisors, students will be provided with rich industrial resources, sophisticated scientific research equipment and diverse international academic exchange networks in order to carry out research on high-level and cutting-edge industry topics;
  • There are generous entry scholarships of up to 100% tuition waiver. Allowances for living and research are also available when conducting research projects at JITRI’s research institute and innovation centre;
  • Students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in the period of study will be given priority to work in JITRI’s research institutes or cooperate with leading companies after completion of their studies, or be recommended to top overseas cooperative universities of JITRI to pursue future degrees.

Mode of study on XJTLU-JITRI Joint Master Programmes

18-month Master programmes:

  • Research Masters (MRes) programme: students will complete the taught modules at XJTLU in the first semester. During the second and third semesters, students will conduct research projects at JITRI’s research institutes or cooperating companies while completing their master dissertation under the guidance of both XJTLU and JITRI supervisors.
  • Taught Masters (MSc) programme: students will complete taught modules at XJTLU during the first and second semesters. In the third semester, they will conduct their research projects at JITRI’s research institutes or at partner companies while completing their master dissertation under the guidance of your XJLTU and JITRI supervisors.

24-month Master programmes:

  • MRes Medicinal Chemistry and MRes Pharmaceutical Sciences: students will complete modules at XJTLU during the first and second semesters and conduct research projects and dissertation during the third and fourth semesters within JITRI’s research institutes or cooperating innovation centre.
  • MRes Materials Science and Engineering: students will complete modules at XJTLU during the first semester and conduct research projects and dissertation during the second, third and fourth semesters within JITRI’s research institutes or cooperating innovation centre.
  • MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation (technology transfer): students will complete taught modules at XJTLU during the first and second semesters. For the semesters 3 and 4, students study one of two tracks: intrapreneur track or entrepreneur track 1. If students choose the intrapreneur track, they will conduct work placement in JITRI’s research institutes or cooperating innovation centres. Also, they will work on a real business case to conduct the consulting project acting as a consultant. 2. If students choose the entrepreneur track, they will have the opportunity to establish a start-up business under the guidance of their XJLTU and JITRI supervisors.

For new programmes (MRes Pharmaceutical Sciences, MRes Materials Science and Engineering and MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation (technology transfer)), the deadline is 15 July 2022.
