January and February 1997
2/7/97 "Hey Deb! Well, I have finally found the site that I have been waiting for
for a long time! I, like many other of your other visitors, have a
passion for Joe. I miss him so much that I do not even watch football
(hardly) any more. I have his rookie card, and it is my prized
posession. My office is a shrine to Joe.
Funny story: You know how Joe is the spokes model for Hanes? Well, at
the local Wal-Mart there was a big display of him wearing a nice grey
sweat suit, and I begged the lady to let me have it when they took the
display down. She told me that when the display was taken down, it would
be crushed before she would be able to salvage it for me. I begged a
little more, and she went over to it and took it down to give me Joe. I
was thrilled, my husband was not! Actually, my husband buys me Joe
stuff. My big Christmas gift last year was his book in hard back-
autographed. I almost fainted! Anyway, I love your site and plan to
visit often.....great job! Sincerely," Roni Lewis-Cripple
Hi Roni! I've seen two different wall size pictures of Joe at Wal-Mart. They
are
gorgeous! I tried to talk to the managers, too, but no luck. They wouldn't do it for
me.
The best I could do was speak to the Coors Distribution Center in Anaheim, and
they
gave me a full size cardboard standup of Joe from his promotion for Coors. You
might
give them a call and ask to speak to the manager, and if you pay the shipping, I bet
they'll give you one, too. Roni, it was great to
hear from you!! Please keep in touch.
2-1-97 "Hello Debbie. I just finished touring your Montana website. It's very well
put
together. Being a Niner fan, it was enjoyable to view. I am curious about a few
things...Are you a Niner fan or a just a Montana fan? Secondly, I noticed you have
several links. I am trying to find someone that has a copy of the SF/Dallas catch game
on video. Would you know anyone from your links who would sell a copy. Lastly, I
am
curious how someone would go about creating there own website. Thanks for any
info
you can supply." - John Murphy.
I'm a Montana fan first. I got disgusted when the Niners let go of Joe over
Steve
Young, so I followed Joe over to the Chiefs. But I still root for the Niners. As for
game
tapes, I don't know anyone offhand. However, you might try lurking around the
Dallas
Cowboys sites and see if you have any takers. Now for a quick lesson on "how to
write
a web page."
First, decide what you want your website to be about. Business or personal?
Decide what kinds of things you want on it. Sounds and pictures gobble up the
bytes.
Find out how many megs you have available for your web page. When I first started
with IDT, they gave me 8 megs. It was a lot, but soon not enough. I switched
providers
over a spat with IDT, and Earthlink only allowed 2 megs for a page. Finally, I decided
to take the plunge and found an inexpensive web hosting service that provides me
with
what I need at a very nominal price. My site is now on that server.
I wrote all of my html code from scratch. This is not to say I didn't look at how
other
pages were written. If you are a WordPerfect person, it would make sense to you
to
say "It's just like formatting in reveal codes, only with different commands." Every
web
page starts with an "html" command and ends with an "/html" command. Every
command you give your page has a beginning and an ending command (what ever
you
turn on, you have to turn off). This is just the very basic stuff. I would suggest
looking
at other people's source code for their pages to get an idea on how they have theirs
set
up. I use Netscape 3.0. When a page has completely loaded on your browser, click
on
"view," and then click on "document source," and you will see how the page was
written. I apologize if this is very cryptic. There is a lot to learn about it, but once
you
understand the concept, it's very easy. Search on the net for "how to write html"
and
read their instructions. Then get a good ftp uploading program like "CuteFTP" to
upload to the server. I hope I haven't confused you more or discouraged you. Good
luck!
1/29/97 "Very nice work... I've enjoyed looking through the pages. Maybe you
can help me with something: I saw a photo (B&W, I think) a few years
ago of the 49ers in a huddle, with Joe kneeling in the front of the photo, back to the
camera, calling the play. Do you know the shot, and if so, where it was published, or
who the photographer is? Any information you can provide would be helpful!
Thanks.
P.S. My greatest moment in sports was being in the crowd for the Super Bowl in
N.O.
when Joe took apart the Broncos. Great day!" - Jeff Moravec.
Hi Jeff! Thanks for the high praise! I'm not sure of the picture, but I will keep
a
look out for it. If I can locate it, I'll email you back. And if you ever run into
something
you'd like to see put on the page, let me know. Take care!
1-28-97 "Hey Debbie! I loved your Joe Montana site. Great to see that so many
people appreciate 'The Greatest' QB of all time. I followed football with a passion
during his years at San Fransisco and Kansas City, when he retired my interest
waned,
football just wasn't the same without him. Probably the most poignant football
memory I
have was when the Giants beat the 49ers for the 1990 NFC Championship (the year
SF
were going for the ThreePeat), Joe was knocked out of the game, and the 49ers
crumbled. I was so gutted that I had to sit in my car for an hour before I could drive
home. Other images that spring to mind include 'The Catch' and the drive that won
Superbowl XXIII against the Bengals. Also going to San Fransisco just after Joe left
for
the Chiefs and finding the sports shops there full of Kansas City #19 Shirts!!
Again well done on your site, it's brought back a lot of memories." - Robin Munt
Thanks, Robin, for your kind words.
1/28/97 "Debbie, It's so nice to see that there is someone else out there that
appreciates Joe Montana like I do. I also have my entire work area
covered with Joe Montana and of course the KC Chiefs!!! I am from a
small town outside of Kansas City. I have always been a Joe Montana fan
and a 49er's fan. So you can imagine the joy in my house when I heard
that Joe signed with the KC Chiefs. I, too, have always dreamed of
meeting Joe. I even went as far as to attend a SUCCESS 96 siminar in KC
put on by Peter Lowe. I had wounderful seats and was only about 20 feet
away from Joe. Believe me I was in HEAVEN. I took an entire roll 36
pictures just of him, however, none of the pictures came out. Maybe some
day I will get a chance to meet him and have a picture taken with him and my
2 kids. My son who is age 6 has been able to tell people who Joe
Montant is since he could talk. My daughter who is 3 1/2 also knows but
doesn't care. My husband on the other hand is a John Elway fan, imagine
being in my household. Well I am sure you receive alot of e-mail so I
will let you get to the rest. Good Luck on meeting Joe, believe me if I
ever get the chance I will send him your way. Your web site is
wounderful and you have a lovely family. Best to you always." - Cheryl Whited,
Centerview, Missouri
Cheryl, I know exactly how you feel. You actually got to see him in person! I
am
sitting
here typing with a big smile. Someday... we will both get to see him. These days, I
am
having to
be satisfied with only seeing him on the Endurox commercials. My hubby is a Dan
Marino fan.
This week I've had to stay home because I had surgery on my foot last Friday. So
between
hopping around on crutches, I've had to have my foot propped up. But my remote
for
the VCR
was nearby, so I watched my two Joe Montana videos. Recently I was very lucky to
be
able to get
my personalized license plate for my firebird, it says SF16 FAN. (Somebody already
had KC19
FAN. Oh, and by the way, if you can contact your nearest Coors Brewery
Distribution
Center,
call them and ask if you can have the 6 foot standup cardboard photo of Joe. I have
one in my
office, and it is great! I hope you can get one. If you don't have any near you, try
calling the
Coors Distribution Center in Anaheim, California, and ask to speak to the manager.
I
bet if you
pay the postage, he will ship one to you. He gave me one a few months ago.
Anyway,
thank you
so very much for emailing me! Keep in touch!
1-18-97 "I am very impressed with your tribute to my hero JOE MONTANA, I
didn't
have a lot time to go through everthing in this tribute. but with what
I saw on here there is no beter man or football player you could have
done this for.I have been a very big fan for a long time I remember
watching a game in the early 80's and could not belive a man could play
with all of that passion and drive to win a game for his team.
I love fighting with my friends about who the best quarterback is, they
say Aikman or Young, but they don't even hold a candle to his talent.
thank you for the opportunity to see this this tribute on JOE MONTANA." - L.A.
Williams
Keep coming back. I'll add new items. Take care!
1-18-97 "Hey! Great Web site. I totally enjoy what you did with Joe's image.
You
are the
best joe montana website I have seen so far and I've seen all of them.
Just wanted to congratulate you and let you know I'm putting a link to your website
on
mine." - Ander Vazquez
Thanks, Ander. I'll be sure to check out your site soon.
1-4-97 "Visiting this site for the first time I fell in love all
over again. I am getting married in August and want Joe to
come to the wedding (it's the closest I can come to marrying
him). "Look for your invitation in the mail, Joe!" Thank you, Debbie,
for this wonderful site." - Christine Collins, Barberton, Ohio.
Congratulations, Christine! I'll cross my fingers, and maybe he'll see
this!
1-3-97 "Hey..Deb on the Web! Thanks for a great site !! Joe became a positive
influence on me when he became the QB of the KC Chiefs. That signing also made
me
a KC fan for life, as much a 'Joe' fan. I just love the guy. NO ONE could toss the
ball and find receivers like Joe. 'Doubt anyone ever will. I have MANY Joe cards,
autographed and un-auto'd. I wish I had more walls for posters !! I was so sad
when
Joe hung-it-up at KC. I felt if he stayed, we would have been at the big one. At least
we have him on tape and that GREAT MNF at Denver game. What a heart stopper
!!" -
Joseph Madajewski
Out of wall space? Sounds like you need to buy a bigger house!
1-2-97 "Congratulations on your homepage tribute to the greatest quarterback.
I
lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until recently and have been a 49'er
fan since John Brodie was at the helm. I attended many games and met
Joe several times. We were greatly privileged to see Joe play his
entire career. I echo all the sentiments read on this page. The 49'rs
will always be my team, but it will never be the same without Joe.
Thanks very much for the hard work you put into this excellent tribute
to an exceptional talent and a fine human being. Please email me the
address to contact him. Keep up the great work!" - Ken Jones, Fort Bragg, CA
Ken, I'd be happy to forward Joe's email address at IMG. I envy you. Take
care.
1-1-97 "Mom, this site is bitchen! I am at my friend's house, and we thought we
would check out your site. The response from them was "Hey, Paul, this site is
bitchen."
Well, we better not take up your time." - Love, Paul
Thanks, sweetie. I love you. Did you finish your homework??!
