August through October 1997

10-8 "Hey Debbie, This site is great! I am a major Joe fan and I, too, have a large shrine (including the 6-foot stand-up)! Could you send me an address where I can write to Joe? It would mean the world to me. Thanks a lot," - Paula.

Hi, Paula. Thanks for the compliment. I'll E-mail you his address at IMG. Take care.

10-7 "Hi, Debbie. What a great page! I love your site. I'm a Thai girl and had never known about American Football till I knew about Joe Montana. And I've been a fan of the 49ers since then. He's great. He's the best. It's a pity I could only watch the games on TV here. I'd be appreciative if you can get me his address. Thank you." - Rachanok Sartsrisuk

It doesn't surprise me that Joe's a hit in Thailand! Sure, I'll E-mail you his address at IMG. Thanks for the E-mail.

10-5 "I recently received some very disappointing news. I am currently doing a four month physical therapy residency at Fort Bragg military base in NC, and the day after Joe Montana was here, I found out about it. He came last Friday to see the base, I assume. I had left the clinic where I worked to go to a staff meeting, and to my dismay found out that Joe had to be treated where I work. If there is one person I would like to meet, he would be the one. I now feel like the chance of a life time has slipped through my hands. Just wanted to write to someone who might sympathize with my situation. No one I know understands how upset I am! Thanks!" - Carolina Blue

Darn! I'm so sorry! That really stinks. Two weeks ago, I found out Joe was going to be at a card show in San Francisco on September 28th, and I was in San Luis Obispo all week at a seminar. My hubby said sure, let's go - but then our plans changed, and I missed the show. It hurts, and there's nothing that can be done. I totally know the disappointment. Did you hear that Joe's jersey is going to be retired on Monday Night Football December 15th? If you can't be there, be sure to watch on tv. Again, I know how devastating it can be. Hang in there, and who knows? Maybe one day you'll be around Northern California and run into him. Take care.

10-3 "Hello, I am looking for a source for a poster of Joe Montana. Can you help me locate one? Thanks. Your web pages are GREAT!" - Kim Chadbourne

Kim, quite honestly, it's hard to find Montana posters these days. I suggest contacting the San Francisco 49ers administration offices and asking them for the phone number to The Fan Club, which is the booster club for the Niners. They may still have a few around, but call them soon, because if they do have some, they're going fast. Good luck!

10-2 "Hello, Debbie. It was very refreshing to find someone else who is as much of a Joe Montana fan as I. I remember being a teenager watching Joe with my dad. After dad's death, every time I would see Joe complete a pass, my heart would race remembering how dad would scream, "Yeah! Joe is The Man!" Well, to this day, I consider Joe to be The Man. The QB in history. He holds that special place in my heart. Could you please send me his address? I would like to share my story with him. I truly enjoy your web site. Thank You," - Lynn

Those sound like wonderful memories. Of course, I'll E-mail you his address at IMG. Good to hear from you.

10-1 "We all love Joe! He's the greatest! Enjoyed your web site! Thank you so much!" - "MULLER CREW"

Hey - It's MULLER TIME! Thanks for the E-mail!

9-23 "Joe is Still the Greatest! I watched Joe up close many times in Rocklin. He was always a joy to watch. He brought many a Niner fan many, many, good memories! I got his autograph when he was still the backup to Steve DeBerg, and it is the only autograph I would not part with. I guess you know that his jersey will be retired at the Denver game on December 15th. We don't go very often, but we will be there that night. Enjoyed your web site very much. I am going to bookmark it since I don't have time right now to go through everything. Thank you again for the site. " - Norma Clark

Norma, thank you so much for telling me about Joe's jersey. I've got my tickets, and my hubby and I will be there cheering him on. I can't wait!

9-23 "Hi! How can I send an E-mail to Joe? I want to suggest to him to be a football TV analyst based on the quarterback. To do the game's analysis entirely by focusing on the quarterback's every move and every game plan. Regards," - Jay H. Yu

Jay, my suggestion is to keep checking in from time to time at the CBS Sports Zone web site. Very shortly, Joe will have his own column, and you'll be able to E-mail him directly. I think he'd make a brilliant quarterback analyst. Good luck!

9-23 "Hi there, Deb! It's a fellow Montana fan here, and I must say it is a great web site. I was wondering if you know that Montana's jersey was going to be retired by the Niners on Monday night, the fifteenth of December. Well, if you could, please send me his address and any thing else you know about him. Ps. I also forgot to tell you Upper Deck did not resign Montana so he will be at the shows signing now hope you like the info." - NINNERFAN1

You are the first person to tell me about Joe's jersey, and I thank you sooo much! I bought my tickets, and I'm taking a couple of days off to join the celebration. I never thought I'd be able to sing "I left my heart in San Francisco" and mean it! I'll E-mail you his address at IMG. Thanks again!

9-22 "Hat's off to you. Great job! Wish I know how to do what you did with your web site." - Jimmie Huynh

Why, thank you! I put a *lot* of time into my site. It's not as hard as it looks. At least, it's not as tough as learning how to do word problems in algebra. Take some time out and look at how others have created their pages. You'll pick it up in no time . . . especially with all of the canned web page programs on the market (although I don't use them, I write my pages from scratch). Give it a try!

9-22 "Any idea when the 49ers plan to retire Joe's Jersey?" - David Brooks

I do now. According to the Niners, they're planning on it happening December 15th. Be there, or be square!

9-17 "Hi. I am a huge Joe Montana fan and had some extra time, so I thought that I would take a look at what was on the web about him. Thanks," Becky

Well, Becky, you've come to the right place! Thanks for dropping by.

9-17 "I have a student here at Mize Attendance Center that is doing a talk in his speech class about Joe Montana. He needs a personal source. Do you know anyone that he could E-mail that knows Joe Montana and he could use their E-mail as a personal source." - Mize

I'm E-mailing you Joe's address at IMG. In my book, your student has an A+ for subject matter. Good luck!

9-16 "Hi. My name is Monti. Do you know how to get a hold of Joe? I went shark diving with him for PM Magazine twice with him in 1990. Would like to talk to him again. Any help or clues would be appreciated." - Monti

Sharks? Geez, didn't you ever see the movie "Jaws"??!! I'll E-mail you his address at IMG.

9-16 "Is there any way to write to Joe or send him E-mail?" - Dean Reeves

Yes. It's on its way.

9-13 "I, too, am a Joe Montana fan. I am still trying to come to grips with not being able to keep track of each week. I have tried to find someone to take his place but have yet to find any quarterback who can even hold a candle to his knowledge of the game, intelligence, and just all around good guy. My husband and kids got me his book for Christmas in 1995. When he retired, I was looking forward to seeing him commentate on Sundays, but he just looked uncomfortable, and I was glad to see that he realized it, too, and bowed out. I hear he is into CART racing, living only 80 miles from the Indianapolis 500 track I went to see his car qualify but could never spot him. Now that the Indianapolis 500 speedway has started the IRL league, CART racers are boycotting Indy, and I will never have another chance to see him in his new surroundings. I still cling to Jerry Rice and Marcus Allen. They were a great team and I still have a love for the Chiefs that no one can understand! I still have a hard time liking Steve Young, too, and don't EVEN talk to me about SF's coach." - Jay Evans.

Oooh! That about sums it up for the Coach! My daughter got me Joe's book AND his calendar that year, and I was in heaven. My mother-in-law gave me Joe's book, too, so I was able to have a copy at home AND a copy at work. It was great! Thanks for the E-mail.

9-12 "Deb . . . I'm a 49'er fan and visited your page a while back and liked it so much I gave you a link on my madfan.com page that is dedicated to bringing back instant replay. I was on the radio out here in SF a couple times last week and was a caller on a late night national radio talk show a couple days ago. Today I got a letter from one of my other links saying that the day after I was on they had the best day ever for their site. I was wondering if you had seen a jump in the last couple days." - Greg, The Mad Fan

It's a funny thing about web sites. Some days you get oodles of people visiting your site, and on other days it's slow. Unfortunately, I didn't see a surge of people visiting my Montana Magic pages, but I do notice that I have more visitors on the weekends and Monday nights. I guess while the guys are watching the game, the gals are checking out my site. Greg, my heartfelt thanks to you for spreading the word about my Montana site. Perhaps if everyone spreads the word, I may get lucky enough to be one of the Top 5% of the Web sites. (Well, I can dream, can't I?) Take care!

9-12 Hi Debbie, I thought I was his Number One Fan. Guess you beat me. Here's a trivia question for you - see if you can get me the correct answer. Even though I know what the correct answer is. One of the doctors I work for said that Lawrence Taylor is NOT the one who hurt poor Joe that last bad hit he got that basically made it his last couple of seasons. Please tell me I'm right and if you have any documented proof, E-mail it to me so I can prove the dear doctor wrong. Also, is there a mailing address to write Joe? I had written him when he was playing for the 49'ers and the Chiefs and got autographed pictures, I'd like to write again. If you have any helpful info on him, I would love it. Thanks so much and keep up the good work on this page." - Laurie a.k.a. CoDee268I

Well, I am assuming you mean his career with the 49ers. It was Leonard Marshall of the Giants who hit Joe on his blind side. Joe suffered a cracked rib, bruised sternum, and a broken hand. I'll E-mail you Joe's address at IMG, Laurie. Thanks for writing to me.

9-11 "Dear Debbie, The absolute best web site I've seen yet and a thrill to see the many die hard Joe fans keeping the magic alive. Never stop your tremendous your work in giving Joe his praises. Wonderful job! Thank God for little pleasures like Joe, and for inspiring you to do the heart touch work you've done. Thank you for one more memory. Sincerely," - David Early, Fort Wayne, IN

David, thank you for the kind words. My pages for Joe truly are made from my heart. He's simply the Best of the Best. Please keep in touch, and take care.

9-10 "Deb, I have been a fan of the MAN for more years than I can remember. I'm a major Montana memorabilia collector and even now as I E-mail you I am surrounded by Joe items. My favorite piece is a litho by Michael Elins of Joe and Jerry Rice. I would love to write him a thank you note for all the wonderful thrills he gave his fans. Can you E-mail me with an address where he can be reached? Thanks." - Apollo19

Absolutely. Please mention my site in your note. Let me know if you hear from him.

9-10 "Hi, Debbie, remember me!? You probably don't. I'm Octavio (the guy from Mexico City). I was glad that you received my message. According to your last message, I'm now part of the Montana Fan Club, aren't I? You probably noticed that my English is not very good, but hey! I'm from Mexico! Keep in touch OK?" - Perales Sánchez Octavio

Octavio, believe it or not, I do remember you! Ola! How have you been? Of course you're are part of the Montana Fan Club - we all are! And your English is great! Take care, and write often!

9-9 "Really Cool site. I am a huge Montana Fan. In fact, I will see Joe this Friday in Kansas City at a Kansas City Chief pep rally. What I really want to know is, do you know what year Joe Montana will go in the Football Hall of Fame? I want to be there when he is inducted. I figure the year 2000, but I haven't been able to confirm that with anyone. I might be 1999. I do know you have to have been out of football for five years, which actually turns into six years because of when a season ends. Please help." - Dances With Touchdowns

That is a good question. Guess I need to make a few phone calls back East. I'll try to find out and post it here. By the way, I LOVE your name! Do you also call that New York Team the "Tatonka" Bills? You can call me "Stands With A Keyboard" . . . Take care!

9-8 "Thanks for the site! This site is great. I've been a Joe Montana fan for years, and I'm only 17. I am happy that someone made a site for him." - Jimmy

You're welcome. Take care.

9-7 "Hello, your Joe site is awesome. Joe Montana is the best quarterback that ever lived. Later!" - Larry Sibley

No truer words were ever spoken. Thank you!

9-7 "I think Joe is the greatest football player ever. Your web page is a fitting tribute to him. Can you give me his E-mail address? I would love to write to him. Do you know what year he will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Please write back." - Joe's Biggest Fan, J1619o

Thanks for the compliments. I'll E-mail you his address. I'll try to find out about the Hall of Fame and post it here.

9-7 "I really thought that your page of Joe Montana was excellent. I am the biggest Joe fan there is. I have built what I would call a shrine to him in my room with plaques, posters, quotes, autographed pictures anything with him on it. I was just wondering - one thing I have never been able to do is talk to him. If you have a mailing address or an E-mail address, and could help, I would appreciate it. Great page!" - J. Briggs

Your room sounds awesome. I'll E-mail you his address. Thanks for writing.

9-5 "First, love your homepage! I noticed a lot of your new pics are stills from some commercials, SNL, etc. I am a huge Montana fan and collector. I have a room in my house with no furniture - just ceiling-to-floor wall-to-wall autographed jerseys, helmets, lithographs, statues, plates (well you get the point). BUT . . . living in Alabama makes it real hard for me to expand my collection further. Well, we need to talk anyway - you seem to have the same admiration and compassion as I do for Joe. Thanks!" - Allison

I can tell you've visited my site before. Thanks for surfing in!

9-5 "I found the page I am looking for, and it's all because of you. I was looking for some pictures of Joe, and you had ‘em. As a thank you, I am going to put a spot on my page for yours. Thanks for a great page. And between you and me, I don't know if Grbac has what it takes, but we still have 16 weeks to find out." - Pete Mahler

Hi, Pete! I'm honored to be linked to your site. Go Chiefs!

9-3 "Dear Deb, We would like to know what Joe Montana and his family are doing now. Where are they residing, what type of business is he doing? You never hear about 'ol Joe anymore. Thanks for any answers you may be able to provide." - T & C (Dad & Daughter)

If you know where to look, you can usually find out what Joe's been up to. He's still up in Northern California with his family. I've seen him on TV promoting his Contour Trainer, the Endurox commercials, read about his restaurant, he's doing card show signings, played some golf here and there, done a bit of motivational speaking, and if you read through these fan pages, he's here, he's there, he's everywhere! I recall seeing him in a baby buggy in front of Mervyns . . . Joe will be starting his own column on the web at CBS Sports Line before the end of the year. Who knows, maybe he'll be helping Santa again this year. Take care!

9-1 "Debbie, Your web page is awesome! I am a HUGE Joe fan and I would like to know if you could send me his address. Thanks!" - Wittliz

It's on its way.

9-1 "My name is David Hollingsworth and I think your web site is great. Anything of Joe Montana I love, and I miss watching Joe play football. Keep up the great job on this web page." - David

Thanks, David. I'll do my best!

8-30 "Debster, I think your page is the greatest. It is great to see such a tribute to the undisputed best quarterback in NFL history. I was watching a Broncos game recently, and all the announcers could say was how John Elway will surpass Joe as the Comeback King. I think they forgot about the time when Joe had to open a can of "whomp-a**" on Elway in Super Bowl Twenty Four. If you could, please send me an address where I can write to Joe. It would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely," - the Biggest Joe Fan in Florida, Kevin.

Sure thing, Kev. By the way, are those "cans" recyclable? : )

8-28 "Hi Debbie. I, too, am a Montana junkie. My wife yells at me when one of Joes Mervyn's commercials is on TV, so I can stop what I'm doing and catch the commercials. Just thought I'd send a quick E-mail. I live in California, so if you hear of anything, let me know, and I'll do the same for you. Bye, Deb, E-mail Me!" - Eric

I love it, Eric! You sound as bad as me. My hubby will be watching TV, and he'll yell, "Hey, your sweetie in on, hurry up and get in here!" Sound familiar (except for the sweetie part)? If I hear of anything, I'll E-mail ya! By the way, such an understanding wife as yours deserves a dozen roses, don't you think? (Hint hint). Keep in touch!

8-16 "I have been a life long Montana fan, and it would be a dream to write Joe and tell him that all his fans in Tennessee miss him! Do you have an E-mail address, or a home address I can contact him at? Thanks for your time," - Tony Brymer

Tony, it's coming at ya!

8-16 "Just saw your Joe Montana web page. Very slick! But I wanted to bring to your attention whom I feel is the greatest quarterback of all-time. Otto Graham of the Cleveland Browns has records that Joe never came close to. He owns records that nobody in the NFL will ever break and may never even approach. Here is Cleveland Browns regular season record winning percentage during Otto Grahams career:

YEAR LEAGUE REGULAR SEASON RECORD
1946 AFCC 13
1947 AFCC 16
1948 AFCC 7
1949 AFCC 6
AFCC Summary 47-4-3 = 87% win percentage

YEAR LEAGUE REGULAR SEASON RECORD
1950 NFL 10-2
1951 NFL 11-1
1952 NFL 8-4
1953 NFL 11-1
1954 NFL 9-3
1955 NFL 9-2-1
NFL Summary 58-13-1 81.5% win percentage

Probably the most remarkable thing about Otto's career is the number of league championship games he played in. Otto played 10 years of professional football. He played in 10 league championship games. A truly remarkable statistic that NOBODY can ever beat. In these 10 games he was 7-3.

Now granted, it is difficult to compare different eras and different teams. But I did read in your page that Joe Montana was the NFL's Greatest Quarterback of 'All-Time'.

This is simply not the case. Joe was an exceptional QB, without a doubt. He personally was the greatest I ever saw play. But there is Otto Graham, better than every other professional football QB. That is how superior he was relative to all other QBs. Take care," - Jerry Jelinek

Ladies and Gentlemen, never let it be said that I didn't allow people equal time (and space) to rebut with their differences of opinion. Jerry, you've stated your case eloquently, and you're a gentleman at that. Now it's my turn.

I've listed the following stats from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Leading Lifetime Forward Passers. These stats from CNN/SI's Pro Football Hall of Fame are updated weekly throughout the NFL season. It differs slightly from other similar lists because statistics from the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), which operated from 1946 through 1949, are included.

MONTANA GRAHAM
RANKING 2 5
LEAGUE NFL AAFRC-NFL
YEARS 15 10
ATTEMPTS 5,391 2,626
COMPLETIONS 3,409 1,464
YARDS 40,551 23,584
TOUCHDOWNS 273 174
INTERCEPTIONS 139 135
RATING 92.3 86.6

How about we "agree to disagree?" I am impressed that you are as impassioned as I am about the game. It was great to hear from you. Keep in touch!

8-15 "I stumbled upon your page by accident, but I can't tell you how excited I am to find it. I have been a fan of Joe since 1982. (I am female and never had an interest in football.) I saw Joe play in a game while with a group of friends. (I had no idea who he was or what he LOOKED LIKE.) I was fascinated with his performance on the field! He actually made the game interesting and an art form. From then on, I was hooked. I would love at some other time to explain what Joe Montana has meant to me in regards to achieving and overcoming physical setbacks (career-ending for him), but what I do want to share right now is that when I had to be hospitalized for a disease that, although not life threatening physically, it was emotionally devastating. My sister, knew how I felt about Joe. When they were knocked out of the playoffs one year, I cried for three days and didn't want to leave the house. Finally, my family convinced me to go to dinner, and we all had a toast to Joe. But believe me, I am not as absurd or fanatical as it may sound. Joe just represented a lot more that being able to play football. Anyway, my sister wrote Joe a letter explaining my illness, that I was in the hospital, how I felt about him, and the inspiration he had given me. She requested that he sign the cover of Sports Illustrated (the year he was voted Sportsman of the Year). It was rumored that if you sent items to Joe for signing, if they ever did get signed and returned, it could take up to 9-18 months. Not only did Joe sign it, but he had it Federal Expressed to me in the hospital. That is the Joe Montana I know and love, and he has never let me down since. Thank you for your site. I plan on visiting often." - Brandy Boardman

That is a wonderful story. I know what it's like to have Joe send you something personally. It's something you'll treasure always. Brandy, I sincerely hope that you're feeling better, and I wish the best for you. Please keep in touch.

8-14 "Debbie, I love your tribute to the greatest football player ever, JOE MONTANA. He deserves to be put on a pedestal. His achievements will never be matched by anyone else. I used to watch him all the time. I wish he still played, but realize I wanted him to keep playing for my own selfish reasons and that it was his time to retire. I hope I get a chance to meet him someday, if you have his E-mail address, can you give it to me, it would be greatly appreciated. Please write back, I would love to hear from you." - J1619o

I'm sorry, I don't have Joe's E-mail. But keep watching the CBS Sports Zone web site, because before the end of the year, he will have his own column, and you'll be able to send him E-mail.

8-7 "Debbie, I saw your web site, and it is great. You did a really nice job on this one, but what did you use to put it together?" - Tony Carothers

Well, let's see. My home computer, a lot of Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) reference books, trial and error, a couple of Tylenols, and a lot of diet Pepsi. I write my pages from scrach, and I don't use any web page programs. I've gotten pretty good at working with Photo Styler. By the way, it used to be that couples would argue over who got to have the remote control to the television; in our house, it's who gets to be on the computer in the evenings. Care to guess who wins the most at my house? : )
