    REGISTRATION /  WELCOME & ORIENTATION

Provides participants with goals and objectives of the course, administrative orientation to CSTI.

    ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS/PRESENTATIONS SKILLS

This session will teach key communication skills to turn a stressful confrontation into a satisfying dialogue, identify unique indicators of stress, how to take charge of reactions in a stressful situation. This block of instruction emphasizes communication skills and stress (high stress interviews, news conferences, etc.); this differs from the stress management session in that the stress management session examines stress from a psychological standpoint only. A large percentage of a PIO¹s presentation, whether to the media, to the public or to his or her own organization, depends on public speaking and presentation skills. This session will sharpen those skills by emphasizing critical techniques necessary in making successful presentations.

    CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY

Often, during crises, those who are responding as part of the organization are neglected when it comes to obtaining information. This session presents techniques and planning principles for effective internal information programs, specific techniques for preparing emergency policies and plans for crises.  Using breakout sessions, participants will be presented with a series of scenarios. They will be asked to reach consensus on specific questions asked by the facilitator involving crisis communications planning, strategy, tactics and use of technology.

    LEADERSHIP

Continuing the three year program¹s emphasis on leadership, this session ties together all the key points demonstrated in earlier programs. An assessment of leadership ability is conducted. Participants discuss leadership attributes, skills, and pitfalls.

    CREDIBILITY

An in-depth look at credibility: how to get it, how to lose it, how to get it back, presented by a recognized expert in public perception of government and building consensus.

    INTERGROUP NETWORKING

Participants develop a continuing networking system to ensure professional relationships and ad hoc mutual aid if needed.

    COURSE REVIEW, SPECIAL GRADUATION

Participants discuss the course with constructive criticism. Graduates design their own ceremony and are given a special certificate.
